Chicken of the sea would have been appropriate for today's meal at the Culinary but I settled for Cordon Bleu. Accompanied by sub-par potatoes with a killer bacon/chive/sour cream concoction.
Mussels, oysters, scallops, bring it on. I love shellfish. During my travels to South East Asia and the South Pacific I have sampled various unknown shellfish. Keeping in mind that I am fluent in Bislama, the local language of Vanuatu, I had a hard time at the market finding out what kind of shellfish I was buying. I would ask the Mamas what they were called and more often than not they would reply with "They're shells." I would tell them that I was well aware that they were shells but I wanted more specific info, i.e. what kind of shells are talking about here? Easy answer "Oh, those are shells from the ocean." Ignorance is bliss I guess.
I'll never forget the first time I tried raw scallops. It was at Collins Lobster Market in Alma, New Brunswick and they were delicious. It's like eating a pat of butter, minus all the fat. I can't eat cooked scallops to this day. Last week Dico and I were at Sobey's and I bought a small bag of fresh scallops. While we were in line he asked how I was going to cook them. I told him that I wasn't. I bought them as a treat and planned to eat them right out of the bag. An older woman who was standing behind us expressed her disgust in my taste. I asked her if she ate oysters raw. She said she did but scallops were like fish and needed to be cooked. Always up for an argument/discussion with someone who invites themselves into a private conversation I asked her if scallops were like fish in that they had gills, fins, and scales or that they come in a hard shell? She became slightly flustered and probably wished that she had not interupted our discussion. I left her with a friendly invitation to join me for some raw shellfish because after all it is considered an aphrodisiac.
Well I hope that you all have a great weekend. The sunshine is expected to last so enjoy while you can. This Outkast cover should put you in a good mood and if it doesn't, check your pulse.
