P&Dubbya's

A great fajita lunch today at Pat and Willy's. Harma slipped and "fell" in a snowbank on the way home. That was funny. We discussed at length today the cultural differences between Holland and Canada. There are many. Quite and interesting convo.

Great job by the P&W staff today for accommodating our picky pallettes.

I was late coming to work today so I had better get back to work.

Friendly, Over the top, or Rude?

After Jacobs sudden disappearance today's exiting lunch was a no go. I guess you will have to stay tuned to figure out what we had planned for today. Instead, we plowed through the snow towards Pat & Willy's.  Excellent food and service from Brent!

We discussed being friendly, over the top, or rude. I explained that the mentality and the way things are done in Holland are slightly different than in PEI. I certainly enjoy the service and frienliness here in PEI but sometimes it's just a little too much for me. Dico and Donnie on the other hand don't think the Dutch are stepping out of their way enough and are therefore considered rude at times. I guess if you grow up in that environment you just simply are more to the point and because you're not too wishy washy you just don't notice such things that are considered rude by Islanders.

Speaking about rude. Dico certainly had his opinions about things. Today it was, I think, about my choice of car and what type of person that makes me. Well, with him walking next to a nice snow bank it was the perfect opportunity to get back at him by attempting to push him into it. Didn't work though! He was just a tiny bit stronger and his arms were just bit longer so that instead of Dico, I ended up in the snow. But I must say a nice thing about him today. Especially since he was so nice to take care of lunch for us today. Thanks!

Donde es Jacobo?

Strange turn of events leading to lunch today.  Jacob was going to organize our "special" lunch... however he vanished without a trace.  Perhaps off to Vanuatu, we're not sure,  but we're praying for a safe return.

We actually didn't  talk about our topic today as we were busy talking about cultural differences between the dutch and us Canadians.  A friend of mine asked me to proof read a letter she'd written.  Don't all laugh at once -- me correcting grammar --she works for the UN and english isn't her first language so I guess my english is slightly better than hers.  Anyhow, this letter was, in my opinion, rude and very much to the point.  This is considering that the letter was asking someone to fill out a survey (and not a short one... multipage survey) and mail it back by March 1st.  There were no "please" or "thank yous" in the letter at all... more of a directive to fill it out and send it back as they want the info by March 1st.   I re-wrote the letter and added some nicities, the whole "you catch more flies with honey" approach.  Harma defended her homeland saying thats how things work there... quick and to the point.  Brent joined us (we ate at Pat & Willys... good fajitas!) and confirmed that being "polite" is a good habbit around these parts and will get you much further than not.  Anyhow... different cultures I guess... but interesting none the less.  I guess since I moved here so young I lost all thet rudeness and direct approach.
